Arper Catifa 80 Lounge Chairs - Lievore Altherr Molina
Designed by Lievore Altherr Molina for Arper in 2006, the Catifa 80 is the lounge chair expression of one of Arper’s most recognisable seating ranges. Its sweeping upholstered shell gives it the generous scale of a lounge chair without the visual weight of conventional lounge seating.
The Catifa collection became one of Arper’s defining designs, built around a simple curved shell adapted across different forms and uses. The Catifa 80 expands that familiar idea into a lounge chair, widening and opening the form while retaining the clean, recognisable Catifa profile.
Our examples are fully upholstered in a vibrant blue fabric, which gives the Catifa 80’s broad silhouette even more impact. The polished aluminium base keeps the shell visually open underneath, while the return swivel automatically brings the chair back to its original position after use, keeping groups neatly aligned and the surrounding space looking clean and orderly.
The Catifa 80 received an iF Product Design Award in 2007 and an ICFF Editors Award in 2010. Nearly two decades later, the design still feels distinctive — particularly the combination of its generous proportions, simple shell and minimal central base.
In the home, the Catifa 80 has enough presence to make an entire room feel more distinctive, while in client-facing spaces it brings the same impact to receptions, executive offices and corporate lounges. Used individually or as a group, their vibrant blue upholstery and polished aluminium bases give a space an unmistakable designer character while remaining remarkably easy to place.
We regularly source original designer pieces from commercial and institutional settings. Enquiries about this piece or others are always welcome.
