Cattelan Italia Spyder Table

The Spyder dining table by Philip Jackson for Cattelan Italia is one of the most recognisable contemporary Italian dining table designs. Produced by Cattelan Italia, the table became widely used in modern dining spaces and executive interiors thanks to its sculptural steel base and floating glass top.

Its popularity comes from the way the engineering creates what people notice immediately — a substantial table that still looks visually light. The angled steel legs meet at a central junction and distribute the load through the structure. This allows the thick glass top to sit without a traditional frame underneath, creating the impression of a large sheet of glass almost floating above the base.

The name “Spyder” comes from that structure. The central node and angled supports resemble the “spider fittings” used in architectural glass facades — the fittings that hold large glass panels on commercial buildings.

The Spyder dining table by Philip Jackson for Cattelan Italia is produced with a fabricated steel base finished in graphite powder coat supporting a tempered glass top. On authentic examples the central welds are ground smooth before finishing, giving the base its seamless sculptural appearance — something noticeably different from many copies where the welds remain visible.
