Lounge Suite By Eero Aarnio for Framac

Lounge Suite By Eero Aarnio for Framac

Award-winning Finnish designer, Eero Aarnio, is seen as one of the greatest innovators of modern furniture design. Famed for his experimental approach to design and materials, he has created some of the most iconic furniture of our time, his work sitting in numerous museums worldwide.

Born in Helsinki in 1932, Aarnio studied at the Institute of Industrial Arts before starting his own interior and industrial design studio in 1962. It was at this time he began to experiment with other materials, most famously plastics. Never before seen in industrial design, plastics opened up a whole new world to designers as they freely experimented with forms and colours in a departure from the traditional design norms.

Aarnio’s pioneering experiments birthed such creations as the Ball (1963), the Pastil (1968), and the Bubble (1968) chairs. Fascinating, humorous and playful, his designs were a true representation of the pop culture era that was enveloping the world at the time. His designs became immensely popular, even featuring in 60’s sci-fi movie sets because of their geometric shapes and space-age feel. In recent years with the resurgence of modernist and mid-century design, Aarnio pieces have increased in value and become highly sought after.

We currently have an original Eero Aarnio lounge suite available. Truly one-of-a-kind, the set has a galactic aesthetic and is comprised of a 2-seater lounge, a lounge chair and glass coffee table. This particular set was designed for Australian brand Framac, now called Sturdy Framac, who have been one of the nation’s leading suppliers of commercial office furniture since 1968.

In true Aarnio style these pieces are both sculptural and functional, combining the Scandinavian tradition of simplicity with the innovative use of materials and design. The chair and lounge are structurally perfect, fusing comfort and effortless style with solid, superior construction and high quality materials. Richly upholstered in a uniquely patterned burnt orange, the cushioned seating sits on a sturdy chrome base. The glass coffee table matches the style of the chair and lounge, its dark glass table-top sits atop a chrome frame of identical design.

As with all of Aarnio’s work, these pieces are built to last, with the hope for them to be experienced by multiple generations. So whether this is for your lounge room, your office or your waiting room, this lounge suite is a rare find indeed - a piece of modernist design history that should not be missed.
