Eames Plastic Eiffel Armchair by Ray and Charles Eames

Eames Plastic Eiffel Armchair by Ray and Charles Eames

Ray and Charles Eames are celebrated as the most influential designers of the 20thCentury. The American husband and wife team met at art school in the 1930’s and established themselves in Los Angeles in the 1940’s. Their childlike sense of wonder about the world created a magic that was reflected in their lives and their work.

From significant WW2 contributions to some of the most recognised furniture designs in the world, their revolutionary work spans not just furniture design but architecture, industrial design, textiles, art and film. The Eames’ set a new standard for design globally and still have a strong influence today.

Charles’ modernist design approach is balanced by Ray’s playfulness with colour and form, her background as a trained abstract artist coming through. Their designs showcasea uniqueness combined with excellence, style and comfort, but above all, functionality. As Ray Eames said, “What works good is better than what looks good because what works good lasts.”

This has been expertly achieved with the iconic Plastic Armchair. The seat and arms of the chair are produced in high quality plastic and moulded to fit the contours of the human body perfectly, the organic shape and sophisticated lines provide continuous comfort. The Eiffel Tower style base supports the seat; the intricate design of steel wire combining elegance with structural strength.

Eames’ pieces are produced by Swiss family-owned company Vitra, who have been loyal supporters and manufacturers of Eames designs since the 1950’s. Vitra are focused on improvingthe quality of our every-day surroundings through authentic and quality design.

Eames’ furniture designs are so iconic that they have been replicated time and time again. Unfortunately these cheaper replicas sacrifice the quality of the original, making for an uncomfortable seating experience and a piece that will not stand the test of time – the opposite of everything that Eames’ designs stand for. Make sure you check the design and quality and make an informed buying decision – it will make a difference to your daily comfort.

Available in black, this authentic piece is versatile enough to suit any space; from dining rooms, to home or office workspaces; from restaurants to auditoriums or gardens.
